The DEC meeting convened at 6:00 PM on June 27, 2023, with District Director-elect presiding. Members present were: Sarra Idehen, Annette Krause, Kandi Kutkas, Richard Carr, Peggy Carr, Debbie Crutchfield, Trevor Nelson, Mira Johnson, Margaret White, Vy Nguyen, Tony Derricott, Wayne Davis and Terry Yackley. 2022-2023 members absent were: Jaysee Jimenez, Sameer Deshmuhk, Ken Jenkins, Jessica Cheadle, Shelly Belflower, Keith Tondro, Karen Bradakis, Jorge Ramirez, Marisa Whittington, and Jamiel Khwaja.
1. Update on Area Directors and other positions filled: • All Division Director positions filled.
- Still need Area Directors for A1, B2, B3, C1, C3 and D4
- All positions will be updated on the district website.
2. Recap of DEC training • Twelve in attendance.
- Present were Annette Krause, Sarra Idehen, Kandi Kutkas, Michael Hachigian, Debbie Crutchfield, Mira Johnson, Jaysee Jimenez, Lionel Furness, David Garbrecht, Deborah Whitman, Margaret White and Madeline Armendariz Odeh.
- Absent were Tammy McMorrow, Christine Groberg and Janine Donald.
- Presenters delivered informative, relevant information on role expectations for division and area directors, area director reports, Distinguished Club Program, and club speech contests.
3. Info on club officer training – presenters have been assigned for all officer roles. Officer training Saturday, July 8, 2023, 9:00 AM.
4. Reflection on District – • What went well: officer training, speech contests, and spring conference.
- What can be improved: achieving the district mission (building new clubs, supporting all clubs to achieve excellence), website, incentives and awards, and communication and dissemination of information.
5. Reflections on DD or AD positions – • Area director position was enjoyable but challenging.
- Was not aware the position required so much district-level involvement, burned out.
- Train early and get organized.
- Update success plan early and be friends with each other. Ask for assistance.
6. DEC meeting schedule 2023-2024 – 2nd Tuesday each month at 6:00 PM Mountain Time. The next DEC meeting is Tuesday July 11, 2023, 6:00 PM.
7. Trio meeting schedule 2023-2024 – 2nd, 3rd and 4th Thursdays, 7:00 PM Mountain Time. On the first Thursdays there are regional peer meetings for PQDs and District Directors at 7:00 PM & 8:30 PM Mountain. On 1st Thursdays, Trio may touch base at 6:00 PM or text, or email if there are pressing matters.
8. The district purchased an OWL with accessories and microphone equipment. If funds allow, we will budget for the purchase of a second OWL with accessories.
